Kaze ProjectWhy Grassroots Production for the Kaze Feature Film?Fall semester 2009 will see the beginning of Albee's own degree program for Computer Assisted Animation and Visual Effects. Students graduating this program in two years will have access to the production-based skills necessary to be hired at a studio and drop instantly into production. Students will also have the production experience to be able to team-up with other graduates or industry veterans and produce their own animated films. Who would believe it possible, though, for a small team of properly trained artists to be able to produce something as wide-sweeping as a feature film... unless someone rises to the challenge and clearly documents the progress for others to follow. "It's because of my future graduates that I've chosen to do the Kaze feature film as a Grassroots production: starting with little more than a powerful, locked script, great character designs, my skills and learning, licensed software, and a few computer systems... basically what any graduate of the course would have access to. I want to show local investors the viability of this production model, especially in these difficult economic times. People who would normally have bought, renovated and "flipped" houses can expect at least the same return on their investment in two to three years time, if the film does poorly. But, if the film does average for an animated feature film, those local investors will be seeing quite the return on their investment."
